N2 - Item classification via ABC-XYZ-Analysis is of high importance for strategic supply and inventory control. It is common to perform the analysis based on past consumption data. Upcoming trends regarding future consumption are not taken into consideration, which has been the object of investigation in this study. Future orders and demand forecasts have been considered to improve the material classification process based on data from a company belonging to the machine building industry.
