Migrants are educationally disadvantaged in Germany. A gap of cross-cultural knowledge of teachers could be a possible reason for the educational disadvantage. Finally cultural pedagogy is not systematically integrated into teacher training. Currently, there are no investigations dealing with cross-cultural knowledge of German teachers. Two studies have been carried out to capture and describe cross-cultural knowledge of German teachers. The first study is based on self-assessment. In the second study a newly constructed knowledge test was used. Both studies indicate that the cross-cultural knowledge of the participating teachers is not yet sufficiently developed. Based on the results, we strongly recommended anchoring cultural pedagogy in German teacher education.
