Due to the interplay of the progressive democratization of educational opportunities and the differentiation of the educational organization, educational selection has asserted itself as the modern form of integration into society during the last two hundred years. Under favorable conditions of economic growth, selection was consolidated through the grammar school of the German Empire. During the Weimar Republic, the negative side of educational selection (''Relegation of the Untalented'') was already conspicuous. The upper classes benefit the most from the shift of status allocation from natural selection to educational selection.
