N2 - MEZ is a panel study on secondary school students in Germany that was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from 2014 to 2019. Its English title Multilingual Development: A Longitudinal Perspective is a free translation of the original Mehrsprachigkeitsentwicklung im Zeitverlauf, the source of the acronym MEZ. The study was conducted at the University of Hamburg by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the disciplines of educational science, (English, Romance, Slavic) linguistics, educational psychology, econometrics and sociology.
