The OpenAI model ChatGPT is now working so well that it is changing the way texts are written – and consequently how they are learned to be written – in an educational context. Nevertheless, didactic concepts are still lacking. Regarding German teaching, the question arises as to how AI should be dealt with and how it can be reflected upon and used beneficially in the sense of AI literacy in lessons with students, but especially in teacher training. The article deals with generative language models on the basis of ChatGPT, discusses the state of the art in the didactics of writing in German and addresses the question of what an AI-literacy comprises.
