This report documents the theory-based development of an objective and economical in-strument for the use of measuring pedagogical competence in university teacher education. Pedagogi-cal competence is viewed as part of a broader concept of professional competence of teachers besides content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, professional attitudes and motivational aspects. Pedagogical competence can be divided in several domains of content and requirement. This structure is the foundation of the operationalization of pedagogical competence for the instrument at hand. On the basis of a sample of 700 future teachers the instrument is assessed regarding item-analytic values. Furthermore a criterion-related reduction is conducted. With this short version pedagogical knowledge can be measured in connection with the other components of professional competence of teachers. Advanced questions and fields of application are discussed for the long version and the short version.
