This article is based on the development and research of a digital learning envi-
ronment for practicing songwriting competences in school music classes. Based
on an interview study, it reconstructs specific potentials and effects of this digital
resource in the context of music-related practice, creativity, and communication.
For this purpose, the data were analyzed according to Mayring’s content analysis
and interpreted on the basis of Helmke’s offer/use-model, which was expanded to
include digital aspects. The results of the study show great potential of the song-
writing resource on the level of organization and planning of independent and
creative work in combination with the promotion of cooperation and communi-
cation between the students. The learning environment reaches its limits when it
comes to concrete and individual problems
