Teaching digital literacy skills to foreign language teachers benefits greatly from a subject-specific competence model. However, none of the numerous existing models has been specifically developed or systematically adapted for teaching foreign languages. This article is dedicated to this task. First, we identify recurring professionalization needs from the current debate in foreign languages in the German context. Then we specify the recently developed integrative model of digital competences for foreign language teaching and illustrate it with the example of machine translation. The article opens the discussion on a digital competence model dedicated to foreign language teaching and contributes to the debate on digital professionalization needs in L2 teacher education.
