Seen as a cultural problem, professional education is a specific mode to manage the relations between gene-rations. Generations develop around the problem of traditions in civilisations. Societies, generations and individuals face the never ending problem of how to manage relations between old and new, between remem-brance and forgetting, between traditions and starting up new. Generally, this is the problem of balancing cultural tradition on the one hand and cultural innovation on the other hand. The following essay discusses several models, terms and theories from several sciences such as sociology of media, ethnology and history of writing. It is the goal to show relations of generations in pedagogy as part of the problem of the deliverance of civilisations.
