Generating knowledge is the key contribution of both the natural and social sciences. In this knowledge generation, theories and theorizing take vital roles. Theories abstract the specific of a particular phenomenon to convey descriptions, explanations or even predict other instances of the same phenomenon. Theorizing refers to the skill and practice of developing new or existing theories. Thus, theory and theorizing are central to the research endeavor.

This workshop on “Theories in Information Systems Science” invites you to join discussions and debates on theory and theorizing in the disciplines of Business Information Systems Engineering (BISE) and Information Systems (IS). Through readings, discussion and interaction, you will learn the foundations and basic skills of theory and theorizing in BISE and IS.
