The chapter deals with temperature control in Peltier cells comparing Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and PID controllers. In the context of Industry 4.0 transformation, the control strategies play a crucial role. In particular, if the systems to be controlled are innovative and show futuristic techniques of production, transportation, and in general new technologies. In this chapter, we compare the classical proportional integral-derivative (PID) controller with SMC. The industrial system considered is an innovative milling system in which the object to be milled is fixed by an clamping-ice system in which the temperature of the ice needs to be controlled to maintain the clamping forces. The measured results are shown to validate and demonstrate the innovative milling system together with the proposed control strategy.
