U.S. Embassy Teacher Academy

The U.S. Embassy Teacher Academy provides up-to-date information on American society and values to secondary school teachers from all German states, junior and senior teachers, multipliers in the field of English and the Social Sciences, 'Fachberater' and 'Fachleiter', secondary school curriculum planners, representatives of ministries of education, textbook writers, and educators. The conference offers intense exchange with specialists on issues relating to education, politics, economics, and American studies. Lectures and discussions will be in English.

This year’s seminar will start on Thursday, September 19 (late afternoon) and end on Sunday, September 22 (after breakfast). The seminar will take a closer look at innovative ways of teaching American Studies content. Together with members of the project team, we will review the U.S. Embassy School Election Project 2012 which ventured into e-learning and proved to be a challenge - and a great success. American experts will discuss ideas on how to teach global issues while not losing sight of core U.S. related topics such as green initiatives and educational reform. We are pleased to be able to show and discuss the prize-winning documentary “Wisconsin’s Nazi Resistance: The Mildred Fish Harnack Story” with Joel Waldinger, learn more about how to teach documentary film and assess the changing media landscape in the U.S. We will look towards the future and jointly develop ideas on innovative teaching.
