Matthias Stubenvoll’s book focuses on the evaluation of software programs, that were designed for training basic skills in music theory or ear training. First up the author discusses some main learning theories and then describes features of educational software titles. In his main chapters he develops a questionnaire that includes both items to evaluate aspects of quality and agency. His quantitative analysis is able to illustrate the instrument¹s adequacy. Stubenvoll¹s descriptive data illustrates the potential of the two programs. He ends with a call for music educators to get involved in learning software¹s development and evaluation.
