Ten spatial interview tasks and a hierarchically levelstructured strategy interpretation system were developed to describe appropriately the spatial abilities of 65 preschoolers. The results show that even kindergartners are able to succeed in easy spatial tasks using a lot of different solution strategies. It was also possible to identify specific characteristics, which seem to have an impact on the probability of success and the choice of the solution strategy.
