From 25 October to 1 November 2009, the Universidad Técnica
del Norte, Ibarra (Ecuador), and the Leuphana University
of Lüneburg (Germany) jointly organised the international seminar “Education for Sustainable Development and Biodiversity” which took place in Ecuador. The participants of the seminar, coming from Latin America and Germany, discussed how education for sustainable development in Ecuador and other Latin-American countries could possibly contribute to the creation of awareness about the importance of biodiversity and respective conservation measures. This article describes objectives and main topics of the seminar – with a particular focus on current approaches for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation in Ecuador – and, against this background, discusses if the seminar itself can be seen as a setting for Global Education.
