Based on a representative questionnaire and study on Thuringian students (n=917) between the ages of eight and thirteen, the authors presend findings on the children´s leisure activities after the reunifaction. The data show that sportive activities are positively regarded in the house and around the neighborhood. Males are more likely to becom members of a sport club, whereas females additionally have music and art activity appointments. Friendship circles and close interpersonal relationships play a significant role and determine whether students join and continue to participate in sportive activities. Despite the fact that physical education is the number one favorite subject in school, the number of school offerings (obligatory and elective classes, as well as interest groups) were significantly reduced after the reunification.
