Leutner (1999) analyzed the publication habits of German spoken authors. Two tendencies showed up: (1) Articles on instruments and methods of psychological assessment are preferably published in German language journals, articles on basic research dealing with personality and individual differences are preferably published in English language journals. (2) The authors tend to publish either in German or in English, only a few authors use to publish in both languages. These tendencies demonstrate a strong need for sufficient German language publication area in the field of applied assessment instruments and methods, but there seems to be a limited need for German language publication area for basic research in the field of personality and individual differences: Obviously, empirical studies on German language psychological assessment instruments and methods are of interest for a German language audience but not for an international audience. Notably, this need for a sufficient German language publication area can be satisfied with journals which have a - for German journals - respectable impact factor: for "Diagnostica", for example, ISI calculated a value of 0.47 for 1997. An analysis of articles published in "Diagnstica" in 1997 and 1998 entails that the Journal continues to be a forum of diagnostic and assessment questions in all fields of psychology.
