In their studies on educational foundations as a part of pre-service teacher training in Germany, pre-service teachers are supposed to develop the generic knowledge needed for professional behavior in their job as a teacher. The research program BilWiss developed a test on educational knowledge within the context of the federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW) covering relevant content of educational foundations in pre-service teacher training. In two studies, the present paper investigates whether the test content corresponds to the intended academic teacher training curriculum at federal level. Both state delegates' expert ratings and the comparison of the test content with federal standards on the subject unspecific, educational part of pre-service teacher training indicate that the test can be applied across federal states.
