Arts and music festivals, shows, concerts, and similar events are all important leisure and tourist activities, not least in terms of the number of people involved. There are thousands of live performances in the UK each year, with a total of millions of people attending live music events (Bottrill et al. 2008). In 2007, some 85 major festivals took place in the UK alone, with a total audience of over 2 million people (ibid.). This chapter describes the method used to approximate the ‘carbon footprint’ of a relatively small, urban music festival.
