This publication is motivated by an observation of the German speaking countries and their discourses on teaching popular music. While these remain rather static over the past at least two decades, on the other hand there is an almost unmanageable amount of papers and publications on popular music and "the" popular itself.
This books deals with questions of what to teach and how to do so. It features concepts based on music pedagogy or music education as well as instrumental pedagogy. Also theories and methods derived from cultural studies or economics are referenced or applied.
Finally some best practices and implementations of both school and University level teaching, instrumental training, and even teaching of research methods on popular music are added in the last chapter.
