Through the example of the syllable-initial “h”, it is shown how subject-specific knowledge and pedagogical-grapheme knowledge develops as a part of professional pedagogical subject knowledge throughout the course of studies. Subject of discussion is the influence that specific courses have on this process and the consequences on initial teacher education.
