The growing importance of so-called nonprofit organizations corresponds to a multifaceted literature on management of Nonprofits. However, the question of possible specifics of nonprofits as organizations, hence the use of a decidedly organization- theoretical perspective, has so far been largely neglected. Based upon a systems-theoretical framework, this article appraises existing approaches to NPO research and their grasp of organizational realities. After that, introducing the expression of »multidiscursive organizations«, an alternative approach to NPO is explored.
