Strengthening the reflection skills of students in the profile study in teacher education

Project: Teaching

Description

By choosing a profile study, student teachers at Leuphana can set a thematic focus and thereby specifically deal with one of the cross-sectional topics that connect to the central challenges of a transformative society: Inclusion & Diversity, Digital Teaching & Learning, or Language Education.

The core element of the profile study is a digital reflection tool (ePortfolio). It enables students to regularly reflect on their competence development in relation to specific situations through conscious cognitive and goal-oriented processes of multi-perspective observation of professionally relevant situations. Supported by the ePortfolio, prospective teachers learn to grasp the often complex school reality, to examine different interpretations and to steer their own actions accordingly. Thus, the engagement with the ePortfolio contributes to a continuous and targeted professionalization process of the profile students.

Studies show that the reflective ability of student teachers is rather weak and therefore does not "run by itself", but requires targeted support in the sense of constructive alignment. Therefore, the aim of the ReflexProfi-L project is to qualitatively strengthen the reflective ability of profile students in the teacher training program through targeted measures of support, casework and networking; both digitally supported and in face-to-face formats.
