This chapter looks at how SusTelling is perceived and interpreted by young adults, and how storytelling can affect the need for information, media preferences, and the demand for better and more interesting communication formats – especially for young adults. Based on an explorative study, participants received a variety of media messages, ranging in modality and sustainability topic, after which they were asked how they experienced engaging with the content. Based on the results of this study, this chapter discusses elements of SusTelling that are important for making successful sustainability narratives in the target group of young adults, highlighting that SusTelling should be authentic and experiential, plausible and realistic, as well as differentiated and rich in perspective. Subsequently, a typology for the reception of SusTelling is assessed, distinguishing between explorers, visionaries, and enlighteners, who differ in reception mode and reception effects. At the end of this chapter, some limitations are discussed.
