N2 - This article discusses the influences of current societal and economical changes on the prevailing discourse on racism in Germany’s public schools and school system. It analyzes the positioning and involvement of parents with a so called migration background in inner-city public schools in Berlin. A dispositive analytic approach is applied on the interplay of discourses, practices and forms of subjectivation referring to contemporary racist practices and structures of inequality and how these are intertwined with the authority of neoliberalism. The analysis shows that especially in the context of current integration policies and educational reforms, culturalistic and neo-racist perceptions of migrant parents are strengthened via individualistic and meritocratic positions, which leads not only to a reproduction but also to a deepening of structures of racial inequality in schools.
