The European Union's deepening and widening has not only multiplied the amount of relevant literature, but also led to an increasing re-examination of traditional dividing lines both within and between the disciplines concerned. In contrast to recent discussions focussing on the necessity of interdisciplinary “European Studies” or even the foundation of a single “Europawissenschaft”, the following contribution stresses the need to realign EU-related research with established (sub-)disciplines. First, it is argued that the basic approach of Comparative Government will not become obsolete in a seemingly “post-national” era, but will continue to provide an efficient framework for cumulative political research – provided that it is systematically complemented with the European dimension. On this basis, selected elements of a “Europeanised” Comparative Government are being outlined, linking EU-related analyses with research on the polity, politics and policies of national governmental systems. This way, the interdisciplinary co-operation between the different “Europawissenschaften” could be fostered as well.
