he paper provides an introduction in the thematic focus of this issue of Soziale Passagen
and outlines essential developments of professionalization of Social Work. In addition the
discourse of Social Work professionalization is outlined. With respect to welfare state transformations,
challenges as well as new perspectives for Social Work are highlighted in order to suggest,
which direction of development seems to be adequate for the profession in times of neo-social
policies.
