N2 - The 13th Sound and Music Computing Conference (SMC2016) has beenorganized by the Hamburg University of Music and Drama inassociation with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the University ofHamburg and the Leuphana University Lüneburg. The conference took placefrom Wednesday, August 31 until Saturday, September 3, 2016.161 registered participants and approximately another 240 persons haveattended the conference and the accompanying festival.The motto of both the conference and the festival was S.T.R.E.A.M. (Sound –Technology – Room – Emotion – Aesthetics – Music) referring to the Hamburgharbor by the Elbe river and the city’s abundance of canals.Keynote speakers were John Chowning, Trevor Pinch, Eduardo Miranda andCat Hope. The music festival with a total of 11 concerts featured a specialconcert on real-time composition/notation and animated scores as well as aconcert showcasing music by John Chowning. The opening day of theconference presented the past and present of computer music in Hamburg,home of two of the earliest and most influential digital audio workstations(Cubase and Logic), and long-time residence of new music visionary GyörgyLigeti. The conference has also hosted a summer school on the topic of“Neurons and Networks” from August 26 to 30, 2016.Paper chair: Rolf GrossmannWe received a total of 389 submissions from 41 countries, 154 of which werepaper submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least two members ofthe respective Program Committee consisting of 220 internationally renownedexperts.
