Sustainable consumption is a key problem of our times. Drawing on an exploration of the recent scholarly debate about sustainable consumption, the author investigates what schools can and may contribute to its promotion. The paper engages with seminal works from educational sociology and theory, illustrates their practical implication in the context of a school development project and
outlines perspectives for the future engagement with questions of sustainable consumption in school and school subjects.
