Abstract We introduce parametric uncertainty into a nonlinear model for static and kinetic friction of solids. The uncertain parameters are modeled by possibility distributions and an analytical approach is used to propagate the uncertainties through the computations. As a result, we obtain a symbolic expression for the whole spectrum of possible calculation results. (? 2014 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
