Die zunehmende Durchdringung des Alltags mit digitalen Technologien, deren primäre Eigenschaften wie Abzählbarkeit und Indexierung einen radikal rationalen Charakter haben, hat paradoxerweise zum Aufstieg von Wanderpredigern des Digitalen wie ]ohn Perry Barlow, Nicolas Negroponte, Marc Prensky oder dem vom Netzguru zum Dissidenten gewandelten Jaron Lanier geführt. Sie alle erzählen digitale Geschichte(n), die von der emphatischen Aufladung ihrer positiven wie negativen Visionen und ihrem missionarischen Gestus leben. Auch die Rede von den "Digital Natives", die Marc Prensky in seinem viel beachteten Artikel von 2001 als Eingeborene einer digitalen Welt den "Digital Immigrants" gegenüberstellt, ist ein spezifisches Narrativ digitaler Kultur, vorgetragen von einem Propheten einer neueren, besseren und effizienteren Welt des gamebasierten Lernens.
