Sofia Bempeza is a visual artist and art theorist. Her work focuses on facets of the political in the field of art, on labour in the context of art and knowledge production, on gendered identities and performativity. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Berlin University of the Arts, and continued with doctoral studies at the Institute for Cultural and Art Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She worked as a lecturer at the University of the Arts Zurich (2011-2017) and served as a member of the board of Shedhalle Zürich (2014-2018). She teaches at the Zurich School of Arts and Design (F+F) and at the Leuphana University of Leuvenburg. She is curator and co-founder of the Aphrodite* festival, together with Vasiliea Stylianidou and Sofia Dona, in collaboration with the Athens Museum of Queer Arts and Beaver, as part of the Athens Festival.
