Description

The question about the conditions and effects of cognitively activating elements in the teaching of mathematics in secondary schools presents an increasingly importance and is a topic of particular practical relevance. How far the cognitively activating teaching in secondary school education could possibly be realized and if it leads to a success, remains unsolved so far.
The video study is part of the TRAIN-Study, which examines the development of pupils from general secondary, middle and intermediate school (Haupt-,Real- und Mittelschule) during the period of 2008-2012. The videos will be recorded in school year 2011/12 in a part of the general secondary school classes (Hauptschule, n=30). In each class we will record two videos, to investigate the characteristics of teachers and their teaching, their impact on cognitive activation and in how far these characteristics correlate with the effectiveness of teaching.
