Michael M. Gielnik ist seit März 2015 Professor für Psychologie, insbesondere Entrepreneurship an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Er studierte Psychologie an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen und erhielt seinen Doktorgrad von der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Im Verlauf seiner akademischen Karriere absolvierte er Forschungsaufenthalte an der University of the Western Cape (Kapstadt, Südafrika) und war Visiting Fellow an der National University of Singapore Business School (Singapur).

Seine Forschungsinteressen sind Unternehmertum (Entrepreneurship), insbesondere handlungsorientierte Entrepreneurshiptrainings, der unternehmerische Prozess und nachhaltiges unternehmerisches Verhalten. Ein spezielles Interesse liegt dabei auf Unternehmertum in Entwicklungsländern. Er hat eine Vielzahl von Forschungs- und Praxisprojekten in verschiedenen Ländern in Afrika und Asien betreut und durchgeführt.
