This paper examines the concept of transdisciplinarity as a potentially new perspective for the understanding and development of research-practice-partnership in education. In the first section of the paper existing approaches to and models of partnership in general and partnership between educational research and praxis are discussed and central elements and themes extracted. The second section introduces the concept of transdisciplinarity as an emerging paradigm in research and development projects, particularly in the context of sustainable development. Drawing on the case of the conjoint research and development project BINK, an approach is presented that applies the concept of transdisciplinary to collaboration between research and practice in education. Finally, implications of transdisciplinary approaches for the conceptualization of the broad notion of partnership in education are discussed.
