Magnús eiríksson: An opponent of martensen and an unwelcome ally of kierkegaard

Publikation: Beiträge in SammelwerkenKapitelbegutachtet

Authors

The secondary literature has long demanded a more detailed account, or a systematicTheological interpretation, of The complete works of The icelandic Theologian and religious author magnús eiríksson (1806-81). The limited scholarship that does exist on eiríksson1 and on kierkegaard’s relation to him2 is marred by generalizations and oversimplifications, particularly with regard to eiríksson’s Theological stance, which is commonly characterized as a form of “(neo-)rationalism.” If (kierkegaard) researchers continue to lack interest in eiríksson and in The kierkegaard-eiríksson encounter, this may perhaps be explained by The fact that kierkegaard fought his battles with his fellow copenhagener exclusively in his journals and papers. One result of this fact is that neiTher eiríksson’s name nor direct reference to any of his writings can be found in kierkegaard’s published works.3.
