The formation of phases during solidification of Mg alloys with a recyclable composition was studied with the help of macro thermal analysis using the Universal Metallurgical Simulator and Analyzer (UMSA) Technology Platform. Data reported last year were expanded, calibrated and reanalyzed to yield information on phase distribution, enthalpy of formation of the individual phases, evolution of weight fractions of solid and liquid as well as the individual phases during the solidification process, and finally an estimate of the liquid solidification path: the evolution of the liquid elemental composition as solidification progresses. This type of data is very useful in alloy development as well as in understanding, modeling and designing of the commercial magnesium alloy casting processes.
