Traditional coordination mechanisms (market/hierarchy) cannot explain certain phenomena. Especially in complex, uncertain transactions that have an eye on long-term benefits (multilevel cooperation), the sustainability of the cooperation goes against the concept of market coordination. Furthermore, hierarchical coordination seems impossible because of the lack of predictability due to the uncertainty of the transaction. Therefore, this type of cooperation seems to be based on a pazadox. In order to answer questions regazding the existence of such transactions, the notion of confidence could be introduced. From this perspective, the study attempted to model how confidence functions and succeeds in coordinating multilevel transactions. The model was then tested using empirical data. The results revealed the role played by the actor's self-engagement, specifically in establishing and maintaining collaborations.
