A growing income polarization and the related income spread takes more and more attention in the public debate. An increase in the polarization of income is not only in terms of the social context and the feeling of injustice of enormous importance, but also in theoretical welfare aspects and the question of the structural context of the economy and society of great relevance. With an increasing income polarization the shape of the distribution changes such that both the upper and the lower pole increase in mass quantity, whereas the center of the distribution decreases. Thus, polarization is a special form of inequality. Only since the nineties new measures are created to account for the difference between inequality and polarization. The studies dealing with income polarization, related to the distribution of income at the household level. The polarization of individual labor income has not yet been analyzed. This contribution analyses the polarization of labor income taking account of macroeconomic factors. This is used with an internationally comparable database for the 27 countries of the European Union (Working Conditions Survey (EWCS)), creating a wide range of different income distributions. Besides the shape of the distribution it has to be checked whether labor market conditions such as minimum wages with the degree of polarization can be related.
