In evaluating whether a specific form of tourism is 'good' or 'bad', consideration must be given to the local people, especially in the case of long-haul tourism. How does tourism affect their living conditions and their identity? This has also led to unconditional and idealistically motivated demands for sustainability, in the name of the local population. However, what is environmentally 'bad' may be definitely financially 'good' for a person living in the Third World. In addition, one should exercise caution in connection with the notion that tourists are concerned solely with themselves and their own advantages.
