«Media organize» (Reinhold Martin). Based on Simon Denny’s artistic anthropology, our contribution examines the recursive relation between media and organization in order to outline the contours of a ‹media organization theory›. The field of organization studies so far eschews a theoretical notion of media. However, organizational process theory enables an understanding of organization as a constellation of heterogeneous sociotechnical processes of ordering. This chimes well with the notion of ‹logistical media›, according to which media need to be understood as the «materials to manage time, space and power» (John Durham Peters). Fusing these notions into a ‹media organization theory› yields a fruitful approach for studying sociotechnical transformation, i.e. how media organize and are organized.
