Electronic media have become everyday tools for scientific writers at work.
Computers are used for writing and as storage media, e. g. literature reference
systems. In this paper, results of an explorative study on the use of electronic
media in scientific writing are presented. Scholars and scientists were investigated
by questionaires during the winter from 1992/93. Two results i. a. were,
that computers are used more often for writing and as literature reference systems
than paper and that the literature references were managed predominantly
with wordprocessors rather than data bases. The results are discussed in terms of
new hypotheses with regard to the consequences of electronic media for textproduction
processes and the use of stored data.
