To ensure high delivery availability, safety stock is often required in inventory. Meanwhile, the appropriate dimensioning of stock takes place within the field of tension of demand of efficiency and economics. A set of approaches exists to define safety stock levels. This paper describes the line of action to compare these approaches systematically and to derive a future-oriented dynamic method of dimensioning stock.
