The German Federal Government is considering implementing an energy tax to reduce the CO2 emissions considerably by promoting energy conservation and substitution. The analysis of the macroeconomic consequences of introducing such a tax in the German economy using the macroeconomic information system (MIS) is discussed. The MIS was developed as a dynamic input-output model and as an instrument for evaluating greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies and to check their macroeconomic efficiency.
