Eine Supply Chain als langfristige Kooperationsform autonomer Unternehmungen ermöglicht einen effizienten Wertschöpfungsprozess und damit das Bestehen im globalen Wettbewerb. Das erfolgreiche Management einer solchen Wertschöpfungskette hängt dabei von der Abgleichung der Individualziele seiner Mitglieder mit den Systemzielen der Supply Chain ab. Dieser Abgleich wird auf verschiedene Weise empfindlich beeinträchtigt: Unterschiedliche Interessen der Kooperationspartner, eine asymmetrische Informationsverteilung und eine insgesamt hohe Problemkomplexität können exakte Problemlösungen durch die Supply-Chain-Manager verhindern, sodass lediglich Näherungslösungen resultieren. In diesem Buch werden diese Defizite – sogenannte Verhaltensanomalien – anhand von Verhaltensexperimenten beschrieben und analysiert. Ein zentrales Ergebnis dieser Studie ist, dass das in der Theorie oft unterstellte Rationalitätspostulat des Homo Oeconomicus für das Management von Supply Chains kritisch zu bewerten ist.
