Nachfrageschwankungen stellen produzierende Unternehmen vor eine große Herausforderung. Wenn die Schwankungen zunehmen, tritt mit zunehmender Wahrscheinlichkeit ein Ungleichgewicht zwischen Kapazitätsverfügbarkeit und Kapazitätsanforderungen auf. Dies kann zu Streulasten in der Produktion und damit zu einer geringen logistischen Leistung führen. Die Kapazitätssynchronisierung muss durchgeführt werden, um Last und Kapazität in Einklang zu bringen. Zum einen kann die verfügbare Kapazität durch Kapazitätsflexibilität an die Streulast angepasst werden. Die Kapazitätsflexibilität ist jedoch begrenzt. Auf der anderen Seite kann ein Lastausgleich durchgeführt werden, um eine geringere Lastschwankung zu erreichen. Dies kann beispielsweise durch den Auf- und Abbau von Lagerbeständen geschehen. In Zeiten geringer Belastung werden Lageraufträge generiert und höhere Bestände aufgebaut, um die Auslastung hoch zu halten. In Zeiten hoher Nachfrage wird der Bestand reduziert, indem weniger Lagerbestellungen freigegeben werden, um einen stabilen Betriebszustand des Produktionssystems zu gewährleisten. Dies gleicht die Auslastung im Produktionssystem aus und hält die Arbeit im Prozess und die Durchlaufzeiten auf dem geplanten Niveau. Daher untersucht dieser Beitrag das logistische Potenzial, das sich aus der Ladungsflexibilität durch den Fertigwarenbestand ergibt.
