N2 - The goal of this chapter is to give an overview of the opportunities of new media in the field of diabetes prevention education. It should encourage institutions and health experts to use the new technologies for their work in the field of diabetes prevention and to prepare health personnel for the challenges and opportunities in a technology‐driven world. This chapter gives an overview of the different e‐learning approaches with an emphasis on web 2.0/social software applications and their possible implementation for training of health educators such as diabetes prevention managers. A brief overview of exemplary projects in the field of diabetes prevention using new media is also provided. The opportunities for the use of new media for targeting groups at high risk and the general population are also briefly illustrated.
