Closed-loop supply chains consist of supply networks which include recycling activities. Thus, the companies involved are able to reduce their procurement costs by collecting/taking back, sorting and remanufacturing old products and scrap. Simultaneously the environment is protected from further damage due to less primary resource usage. In this book, experiments are used to analyse how the performance of a closed-loop supply chain is influenced by restrictions in material and information flow. In addition, the book analyses to what extent management action is effective in improving the supply chain’s performance. Key indicators of performance are the bullwhip effect and the participating companies’ stocks and shortages. Using simulation as a solution method, the experiments used generate results which the author then analyses statistically.
