This paper aims to summarize the background and some initial insights from a
study of common pasture institutions in six villages in Southern Transylvania,
Romania. The study area has a long history of the common use of grazing land,
but in recent years the institutions governing the use of common pastures have
been affected by socio-economic changes in the area. This summary briefly
considers what institutions exist, how they have been adapting, and what changes
could be made in the future to improve the use of common pastures for
biodiversity and society.
