Description

In addition to the product characteristics of price and quality, logistics services have long since become a highly relevant customer requirement for manufacturing companies and a very important purchasing criterion. Production planning and control (PPC) has a very large influence on the achieved logistics performance and the logistics costs caused. In the literature, there are various PPC concepts that describe the PPC tasks and put them into a process-related context. Examples are the Aachen PPC model or the Hannover Supply Chain Model based on it. These concepts are usually generic and generally valid. However, they do not say how the PPC tasks should be executed in concrete terms. For the concrete fulfillment of the PPC tasks there are numerous procedures to choose from. These differ very much in the required effort, in the result and in their effect on logistic and other target values. Today, there is no continuous and consistent collection and description of these PPC procedures. For the selection of procedures to fulfill the PPC tasks different approaches can be found in the literature. These use different criteria for the selection, but are quite general and do not yet provide a comprehensive solution for PPC configuration. Thus, the design of PPCs remains a great challenge for companies, especially because the effect of the individual PPC procedures and their combinations is not transparent. Only for individual tasks there are highly focused studies on the effect of PPC procedures on logistic targets The research project applied for has two main objectives. On the one hand, the procedures for fulfilling PPC tasks are to be collected, structured and described in a uniform form and language. On the other hand, the direct or indirect effect of the PPC procedures on logistic targets shall be investigated quantitatively and, if this is not possible, qualitatively. The research project aims at an extension of the Hannover Supply Chain Model. The results will be integrated into this framework and thus made available to science and industry, thus providing for the first time a comprehensive systematic linking of procedures for the fulfillment of PPC tasks and their specific effect on logistic target values, covering the entire PPC and the entire internal company supply chain. Knowledge is systematized and new knowledge is created. The basic formulation of causal relationships and the use of suitable structures and visualizations create transparency and increase the understanding of the complex causal relationships in PPC. Thus, companies are supported in examining their PPCs with regard to weak points and target conformity and in estimating the effect of improvement measures in the PPC.
